Grivel

In the morning of Wednesday January 23rd the Gobbi family from Courmayeur, owner of the Grivel brand, worldwide leader in mountain equipment, has acquired from the French multinational ‘Rossignol’ the seven thousand square meters factory located in Verrayes and specialized in the production of ski poles and has renamed it 'Ski Poles Verrayes srl'. The overall investment is around 1,5 Milion Euros.«It is an ethical choice towards a troubled company – has commented the President of the Region, Luciano Caveri, - 'Grivel' is a local company with an international reach, and the acquisition of the Verrayes factory is a strong move, even more valuable as it is a local company».

Gioacchino Gobbi, patron of 'Grivel', doesn’t want to talk about a rescue. «The President of the Region had informed us on the situation of that company – he has told –we got involved and we went until the end because we strongly believe the company still has an unexpressed potential. ’Grivel’ is a healthy company born in 1818: very few companies can claim such a tradition, even older than the Italian State. We have a logical localization in Courmayeur, at the feet of Mont Blanc where Alpinism has started. ’Grivel’ has always been there, producing mountain equipment with various fates.. Medias rarely speak about positive things: ‘Grivel’ today is a strong brand in alpinism with a worldwide presence (including China!). ‘Ski Poles Verrayes’ has got what it takes to grow and develop itself starting from Rossignol, its first customer, without the help of ‘Grivel’. The help of the local government has allowed the creation of something new to bring back home my son Oliviero, who was working in Milan and around the world. I think it is important to make our youth come back to work here in the Aosta Valley after we have invested in their education».

Oliviero Gobbi, who will manage 'Ski Poles Verrayes', is optimistic and very determined in making the new family company take off and grow: «we have seen an interesting market full of opportunities – he has explained – and we have a 4-year purchase agreement with ‘Rossignol’ that will be the foundation on which we will build the future. We will work with the goal of operating excellence, fighting to gain a wider market share around the world and developing our own poles with a specific brand. Poles are not at all a secondary product».
«We have been able to combine here entrepreneurial spirit and public support – has commented Aurelio Margurettaz, the local finance Councilor - and everybody here believes in the project. Too often people propose us new ideas and ask us to bear the risk».
«The project developed by the Gobbi family has been helped by the local Government. It is our role – has added Giuseppe Cilea, the President of the local Finance Company ‘Finaosta’ – it is not at all a rescue and it gives instead a new perspective to a company looking towards the future with new developments. In this difficult times we have to praise those who take the risk: the world goes on and we need to trust who bets on the future».
‘Grivel’ employs around thirty people in the plants of Courmayeur and Pordenone. ‘Ski Poles Verrayes’ employs around thirty five people.
«This can be considered as a win-win situation – has also explained
Oliviero Gobbi – where both the buyer and the seller are happy».
«Nobody was in a hurry – has ended the ‘Rossignol’ Manager
Olivier Rovassard – we could have carried on for another two years. We know how the Verrayes company works and we will be happy to have them as a supplier. We wish all the best to the Gobbi family».
