launch the 1st edition of The Mountain ACademy

The Mountain ACademy is your opportunity to be part of the next step of mountaineering and alpinism.
Because Mountaineering is an inexhaustible source of inspiration for young enthusiasts!
Because Mountaineering is not confined to exploits, extreme and competition!
Because before all, Mountaineering is related to human relationships, unexpected meetings, privileged sceneries, images, stories, feelings, respect and freedom.

More than sweat, competition, and pain, The Mountain ACademy focuses on words such as harmony, pleasure, respect, sensation, feeling, and commitment. The Mountain ACademy wants to illustrate the "freeride" face of mountaineering.


WHAT?
From June 2007 to 20th November, mountaineering enthusiasts (non-professional), men & women, under 33 years old, will have the opportunity to apply to be part of the 1st Mountain ACademy run by Mountain Hardwear in collaboration with Black Diamond & Vertical Magazine,
From December 2007 to June 2009, the selected participants of the 1st Mountain ACademy will be
- guided by mountain professional, athletes, personalities...
- equipped & supported by Mountain Hardwear & Black Diamond
- covered by Vertical Magazine, the 1st european mountaineering magazine
- gathered into 5 base camps located in the Alps, Pre Alps... from 5 to 10 days
- encouraged and helped to build contents (photos, videos, reports...)
- supported to gain experiences & media coverage
- part of a multi cultural young team
- part of a human & passionate adventure

WHO CAN APPLY?
Young mountaineers, climber enthusiasts selected according to their sportive abilities and motivations;
After selections, 8 of them will be chosen.
- Men & Women,
- European citizen and/or part of Europe continent (geographical limits, from North of Russia to South of Spain, from Atlantic ocean to Oural mountains).
- European residents too. All nationalities are accepted if the applicants lives in Europe continent (as defined before).
- Maximum: 33 years old
- Minimum: legal majority in regards of the national Law of each applicant (18 years old in France, Austria, Germany, Ireland, Italy... for example)
- Mountaineering abilities will be selective. Applicants should have advanced skills in all activities related to mountaineering. An evaluation profile and a list of main achievements is asked (see the list of document to download and fill in)
- Abilities to understand, speak, read and write English language is necessary. We are not asking for absolute "fluent" level but most of the communications will be done in English, so...
- No exclusive sponsoring contract with clothing, equipment & material mountaineering brand


PLANNING
June 2007 – 20th November : Applications period
20th November – 30th November : selection of the 8 candidates
13-15th December: Technical controls with all selected candidates
January 2008: 1st base camp located in Hautes Alpes (France) – 5 days / Ice climbing
May 2008: 2nd base camp located in Valle d’Aosta (Italia) – 5 days / mountaineering
September 2008: 3rd base camp located in… secret spot – 5 days / Adventure Climbing
December 2008: Personal or collective project
June 2009: Final base camp located in… Mont-Blanc Massif – 10 days / Mix & Festival


HOW TO APPLY?
From NOW until the 20th of November, you have to provide us
- Personal Profile Sheet
Upload & fill in the Personal Profile Sheet (downloadable on the blog)
This document will allow us to have the requested information
English language ONLY

PLUS

- Video
Provide us with a 3 minutes maximum video where you will introduce yourself, show your abilities for mountaineering and your creativity for movie making!
Maximum weight: 60Mo / Format: Mpg or any other format easily readable on Mac AND PC.

Or
- Illustrated presentation
Provide us with a presentation of 20 pages maximum, using pictures and texts to illustrate the interest of your application and definition of mountaineering.
Languages allowed: English, French, German, Italian
Maximum weight: 15Mo or 10 printed pages / Format:: Word, PowerPoint, HTML or PDF Acrobat.
