| CAMP: Denis Urubko wins the 'Asian Piolet d'Or' |
|
|
|
 We announce continued success for the CAMP athlete Denis Urubko when, on 7th November in Seoul, he won the fourth edition of the Asian Piolet d'Or. This is the eastern version of the famous international mountaineering award that rewards the best alpinist to have achieved a significant challenge.
Denis has been given the award for his exceptional expedition last May to Cho Oyu (8201m) where, together with Boris Dedeshko, he climbed a new route on the South-East Wall of the mountain. The ascent of Cho Oyu was carried out in perfect Alpine style, something only a small number of climbers in the world could risk. Denis and Boris reached the summit four days after they started from base camp, and returned three days later after an exhausting descent dogged by bad weather and with their food finished. This was a double satisfaction for Denis, who with Cho Oyu completed his 14th eight-thousand metre peak climbed without oxygen.
Urubko won the first edition of the award in 2006 together with Serguey Samoilova, when the two Kazakhs were rewarded for the ascent of the North-East Face of Manaslu. Also, last year he was nominated for having climbed the extremely difficult West Wall of Eighth Women Climbers Peak, a mountain of 6110 metres in the Tien Shan region.
One success after another for Denis, who is considered one of the best climbers in the world and C.A.M.P. is proud to count on such a person with these capabilities among its testimonials.
