Martin Riegler was awarded the Paolo Consiglio Prize by the Italian Academic Alpine Club
C.A.M.P. athlete Martin Riegler was awarded the Paolo Consiglio Prize by the Italian Academic Alpine Club. He received the award on 25th May in Turin, Italy, where it was celebrated the 150th anniversary of the Italian Alpine Club.

The prize was established in 1995 to commemorate Paolo Consiglio (1927-1973) who completed several important climbs and in 1959 accomplished the very first ascent of Saraghrar (7439 m). Organizers considered light, alpine style, innovative and technically demanding Italian expeditions realized in 2012 and decided to reward the very first ascent of Kako Peak (4950 m), Karakoram range, that Martin and his brother Florian climbed via its rocky East face. They named their route Ramadan (1100 m, 6c+/7a, A2).

The president of the Italian Academic Alpine Club, Giacomo Stefani, said that «Martin and Florian are young and talented alpinists that don't follow the trend. They avoid the most popular routes and look for exploration and new experiences. Riegler brothers have original ideas, realizing them in good style on extremely difficult and remote mountains. So we decided to reward their ascent on Kako Peak, taking it as an important example for Italian alpinism».

Martin said that «the Paolo Consiglio Prize highlights the excellence of our alpinism. We are happy also because our climbs start to be known and appreciated not only in Germany and Austria, where until now we have been more popular than in other countries». For these reasons we sincerely congratulate Martin Riegler: another C.A.M.P. athlete able to win the prestigious Paolo Consiglio Prize after Mario Manica (1996 edition), Cristian Brenna and Ezio Marlier (2005), Simone Moro (2004, 2008 and 2009) and Denis Urubko (2004 and 2009).
